Teach Me Thursday

Using the paper technique in my bedroom, I put this Bible verse above our mantle.

This is what I did using the paper technique in my living room.

TEACH ME (YOU) THURSDAY!

Hey again, y'all! Each Thursday I will attempt to teach you all something. I would love for you to leave comments or to teach us all something that you love to do! So, comment away.

For my first Teach Me Thursday, I am going to show you how to make vinyl-looking wall letters. I do not have a Cricut machine and, as much as I would love to have one, I do not plan on purchasing one anytime soon. So, I figured out a way to give my walls the look without the price of a Cricut. First of all, buy yourself some letter stencils in a font that you like. I got mine at Wal-Mart for about $3, I think. Next, trace the letters on card stock paper. I used cardstock because it has more weight to it. You can paint the cardstock before or after cutting the letters out-the choice is yours. I have done both ways and each gave similar results. Be sure to spray a gloss protectant on your painted and dried letters to give them the shiny look of vinyl. After everything is dry the letters need to be attached to the wall. I used toothpaste (odd, I know) because I wanted it to be removable since we live in a rental. Just spread the toothpaste in an even layer on the back of each letter and position where you want it. It will be re-positionable for a few minutes just in case you change your mind on the placement. You may want to keep a damp washcloth handy to wipe the toothpaste from your fingers. Another alternative is to use the play-doh type stuff that teachers use to hang up posters in their classroom. I'm not sure of the name of it, but I found some at Dollar General just today for $0.75 a pack. Anyway, you can personalize this anyway you want. Poems, names, Bible verses...the possibilities are endless. Have fun and if you have any questions about this project just ask!
